Winter on Pedestal
Winter on Pedestal
Yes, winter can be so colourful. We can see from the painting of this allegorical putto how regally this figurine from the Seasons cycle is clothed. Winter has his ermine cloak casually thrown over his right shoulder as he warms himself by the fire. The small stove at the boy’s feet is painted in platinum. It is carefully hand-polished in the master workshops so that the precious metal maintains its characteristic shine after firing. There are special tools for this, with polishing heads made of agate or ruddle.
