Crescent
Crescent
In the painting studios of the master workshops it smells like natural turpentine and essential clove and lavender oils. The figures, like this Putto with Crescent from around 1765, are painted according to historical models, but always freehand. Each stroke adds to the definition of the hair, mouth and eyes. Before the final firing, the crescent’s bells are plated with 24-carat gold, and then polished. This smart lad and other “Children with Turkish Music” are modified models by Franz Anton Bustelli.
