Anyone who had the luck to witness the meticulousness with which the bright colours were painted onto the vestments of this “Chinese Man Kowtowing” at the manufactory would probably have almost wanted to bow down before the artist in a similarly reverent position. Created in 1757, this figurine, designed by Franz Anton Bustelli, reflects that refined taste which courtly fashion, with its luxurious fabrics, valuable jewellery and expensive accessories, declared the heyday of the Rococo era.
