The portrayal of parrots and exotic birds has been en vogue at the Porzellan Manufaktur Nymphenburg since the 18th century. But at the start of the 20th century this genre reached new, unanticipated heights. A private wildlife park with giant aviaries was set up in Nymphenburg so that the artists could also study the lives of parrots, macaws, cockatoos and budgerigars in addition to the domestic birds. Luise Terletzki-Scherf‘s works have been largely unaffected by this. Her strength was her style of artistic interpretation as is wonderfully demonstrated by this parrot that was created in 1930.
