Alchemist Johann Friedrich Böttger actually wanted to make gold out of all kinds of different substances.

He was not successful and, after several years in prison, began experimenting with dense white ceramic materials similar to Chinese porcelain, which was more expensive than gold at the time. He did well, and soon the first European porcelain manufactory, Meissen, was founded. Prior to this, however, he discovered a dense brown mass that Meissen today calls Böttger stoneware. The warm colour and pleasant feel make the material something very special.

Meissen is 100 years older than Lobmeyr, which makes us all the more pleased to present a product made for enjoying espresso that combines our fine muslin glass with Meissen’s “original material”. The specially designed saucer harmonizes perfectly with our Alpha espresso cups, available in six colours – light blue, light green, amethyst, citrine, light grey, and pink. Citrine and light grey are best for espresso. The set comes packed in a Meissen gift box with a Lobmeyr folder.
