This fixture is another spin-off from our signature Metropolitan Wall Sconce design from 1966 for the Met Opera in New York. From the flat layout with the original sconce over the boxy design of 42418 “Bellsize Park” we now rounded the design to get even greater flexibility.
As with the original, the base material is a grid from stainless steel that holds the hand-cut crystals. As one concession only narrow crystals are used and only in vertical orientation to allow for the tight curve.
With this narrow pipe-design this fixture can be used as an individual pendant or as elements of a larger installation with multiple elements. (As a stand-alone version it can also be used as a floor lamp).
The first application of this idea though was a monumental column of light at a diameter of 50 cm over a staircase of 16 meters in total length, spanning the whole clearance from floor to ceiling.
